Wrapping Up 2018 in Style!

The Christmas holidays may nearly be here but this week, we have been busy planning our first event of 2019, First Foot at the McManus, and preparing our Learning Studio and the museum and galleries for a day of arts, crafts and making; Scots poetry; pop up theatre performances; storytelling and live music.

Our freelance artists have been transforming our Learning Studio and our First Foot event takes inspiration from our current temporary exhibition ARTIST ROOMS Lawrence Weiner and the Scots text translations of Weiner’s work by author James Robertson.

We will have lots of fun activities for you to enjoy including crafts and weaving in the Learning Studio; live music in our café from local singers Sheena Wellington and Robbie Ward; a poetry recital exploring Scots language with local poet Derek Miekleham; storytelling for little ones with storyteller Robbie Fotheringham and don’t miss our pop up theatre performances with Zero Three 15 Company.

Our gallery spaces will be open for you to explore and enjoy and don’t miss a visit to ARTIST ROOMS Lawrence Weiner to read between the lines and discover how Weiner’s evocative statements resonate with Dundee’s rich heritage and collections.

First Foot at the McManus is on the 3rd of January 2019 from 12-4pm. Join us outside the museum from 11:45am to be piped through the doors in style with the Boy’s Brigade Pipe Band and remember to collect your free drinks voucher on the day and enjoy a cuppa in our café.

First Foot at the McManus is kindly supported by the Dundee’s Festivals Trust Award Scheme.

Festive greetings to all of our blog readers and we hope you have a lovely Christmas and festive season and we will see you in 2019!
