A Fabulous First Foot at the McManus

This year’s First Foot at the McManus was better than ever and was jam-packed with loads to do for all the family. This year’s theme was a celebration of Scot’s culture as well as a great opportunity to explore our current exhibition ARTIST ROOMS Lawrence Weiner and to introduce this exhibition to new audiences.

Many of you enjoyed our welcome to the event from 20 young pipers from the Boy’s Brigade Pipe band; a Scots poetry recital from local Derek Meikleham in our Here & Now Gallery; live music on our café space by local musicians Sheena Wellington and Robbie Ward; Scot’s tales for little ones with Robbie Fotheringham in the Victoria Gallery and our Learning Studio was packed with themed arts and crafts for families.

Our First Foot event also gave our McManus Youth Action Group a fantastic opportunity to present their creative work for their ARTIST ROOMS project to the public for the first time and for our younger visitors to learn how to get involved with Youth Action.

This years event was generously supported by Dundee City Council’s Community Hogmanay Grant scheme. Here’s a little bit of feedback from our visitors from the event:

Great for Dundee to hold such vibrant events at this time of year.

Had a great time and the atmosphere was warm and friendly, I am already looking forward to next year’s.

On holiday with family and was thrilled to discover such a hidden treasure!

I came with my teenager to look at the 14-19 project, which I think looks great!

We are looking forward to seeing you at next year’s First Foot at the McManus!
